Remembering 11/03

It’s been a year since catastrophe struck Japan. Flashbacks of the thousands of life’s lost and unimaginable destruction come to mind. Some of us were able to follow the horrors unfold over the internet or on TV; others were at first completely unaware. One of our crew members was actually on holiday – and being close to the Amazon, didn’t have one bar of mobile reception. Several hours later, when there was some signal in the area, he would manage to send a few messages. Disaster had already struck. Lucky enough his Japanese contacts did not lose any friends or relatives. When getting back to the Hotel a day later the immense magnitude of what happened became clear. There is no need to make this a long article. Be the people lost and the ones who survived remembered and all the aid workers who were and still are at the scene thanked for their support.
